PARAMARIBO: Suriname’s Manorma Soeknandan is Caricom Energy Personality of 2020
PARAMARIBO: Surinames Manorma Soeknandan has
been named Caricom Energy Personality of the Year 2020. Seven other people from
the Caribbean can also call themselves energy personality of the year.
Suknandan is deputy secretary general of the Caricom and head of the energy
committee of the Caricom secretariat.
This year, the Caricom Energy Unit,
together with the Caribbean Center for Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency
(CCREEE), celebrated the Caricom Energy Month for the fifth time. The virtual
launch was on November 2 with a panel discussion. The theme of the fifth energy
month was ‘A RE-silient Community: Energy at the Center’.
Soeknandan and the seven others have
played a leading role within the region when it comes to sustainable energy.
Together they are committed to securing a sustainable future for the Caribbean.
The eight personalities have made exceptional contributions to renewable
energy, energy efficiency, access to energy and rural electrification.
