NEW DELHI: India’s premier spinner Ravichandran Ashwin added another milestone to his illustrious career as he reached the mark of 450 wickets in his Test career on the opening day of the first Test against Australia at the Vidarbha Cricket Association Stadium in Nagpur on Thursday.
In the process, Ashwin also overtook Kumble to become the fastest Indian bowler and second overall to reach 450 Test wickets.
Ashwin took 89 Tests to reach the mark, while Kumble scalped his 450th Test victim in his 93rd Test. Sri Lanka’s spin wizard Muttiah Muralitharan was the fastest to reach 450 Test wickets, achieving it in his 80th Test match.
Australia’s Alex Carey became Ashwin’s 450th Test victim.
Ashwin finished with figures of 3/42 and has taken his tally to 452 wickets. Apart from 450 wickets in Tests, Ashwin has 151 wickets in 113 ODIs and 72 wickets in 65 T20Is.
