DUBAI: Rohit Sharma equals Ricky Ponting’s record of ODI hundreds
DUBAI: The century was long awaited for Rohit Sharma but the Indian skipper doesn’t seem to be perturbed as he predicted the ‘big one is just around the corner’ ahead of the third ODI against New Zealand.
Rohit walked the talk by ending century drought in the one-day internationals with his scintillating hundred against the Kiwis in Indore. The 35-year-old Rohit slammed 83-ball hundred which is his first in ODIs since January 2020 and second against New Zealand as well.
Rohit’s 30th ODI ton in his 241st match also pits him alongside former Australian skipper Ricky Ponting, who also has the same number of centuries in 375 games.

Only Virat Kohli (46) and Sachin Tendulkar (49) now are ahead of Rohit on the all time list of most ODI centuries.
Rohit failed to continue his momentum after his century as he fell to 101 to Michael Bracewell off 85 balls. His knock was studded with 9 fours and 6 towering sixes. Overall Rohit has 273 ODI sixes in his career so far and 896 fours.
This is also Rohit’s second fastest century in ODIs after his 82-ball ton that came against England in Nottingham in 2018.
Rohit’s opening partner Shubman Gill is also in the form of his life as the star Indian player once again stamped his authority with a blistering ODI century off just 72 balls.
