ROME: Visit of H.E. Mr. Antonio Tajani, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of Italian Republic

ROME: Deputy Prime Minister (DPM) and Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation (FM) of the Italian Republic Mr. Antonio Tajani visited India on 10-11 December 2025. DPM Tajani was accompanied by a strong 50-member business delegation from Italy. This was his second visit to India this year. He had earlier visited India in April 2025, during which time, the Inaugural India-Italy Business, Science and Technology Forum was held.

The visit of DPM & FM Tajani follows the meeting between Hon’ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi and H.E. Ms. Giorgia Meloni, President of the Council of Ministers, Italian Republic on sidelines of G20 Summit in Johannesburg in November 2025.

During his visit, DPM & FM Tajani called on Prime Minister and met External Affairs Minister, Commerce and Industry Minister and National Security Advisor. PM Modi conveyed greetings to PM Meloni and expressed happiness at the positive trajectory of India-Italy bilateral relations.

EAM Dr. S. Jaishankar held delegation level talks with DPM & FM Tajani in Delhi and discussed the entire gamut of bilateral cooperation. They expressed satisfaction on the progress of the Joint Strategic Action Plan (JSAP) 2025-29, particularly in sectors of trade and economy, defence & security, counter-terrorism, space, science & technology, innovation, renewable energy, education and people-to-people ties. They looked forward to expeditious implementation of India-Italy Joint Initiative to Counter Financing of Terrorism in line with their joint commitment to combat terrorism in a comprehensive and sustained manner. India reiterated its policy of zero tolerance against terrorism. Both sides are also working on establishing a Maritime Security Dialogue to enhance collaboration for safety, security and growth across the maritime domain. EAM and DPM & FM Tajani also emphasised on further strengthening collaboration in skilling and mobility particularly in the healthcare sector. They discussed key developments in the Indo-Pacific, Ukraine, West Asia / Middle East, and other regional and global issues of shared interest.

DPM & FM Tajani’s meeting with NSA Shri Ajit Doval focussed on security cooperation and key regional and global developments. Both sides reiterated their commitment to take forward the India Middle East Europe Economic Corridor (IMEEC).

Minister of Commerce and Industry Shri Piyush Goyal held a bilateral meeting with DPM & FM Tajani on 11 December in Mumbai and discussed ways of increasing and diversifying bilateral trade and investment. They also chaired the India-Italy Business Forum. During the visit, a number of business roundtables were organized in sectors of automotive, waste to energy & renewables, sports technologies, agri-food and connectivity. The two Ministers also met Indian Unicorns and discussed the India-Italy Innovation Initiative.

India-Italy bilateral relations are on an upward trajectory, with regular high level engagements, Ministerial dialogues and growing interactions at private sector level, which have further strengthened and diversified the India-Italy Strategic Partnership.
