LOS ANGELES: ‘Bramayugam’ enters Oscar Academy space
LOS ANGELES: ‘Bramayugam’ is now going to a place many films only dream about. The film will be screened on February 12 at the Academy Museum of Motion Pictures in Los Angeles. The screening will happen under the special film section called ‘Where the Forest Meets the Sea’. This is also the first time a film starring Mammootty is being screened at the Academy Museum.
Rahul Sadasivan shares from the heart
Director Rahul Sadasivan shared the news through a social media post. He wrote, “Bramayugam comes from the stories I grew up hearing, the fears that stayed, the silences that never left. To see it resonate beyond language and geography is overwhelming. Grateful to the cast, crew, and everyone who brought this vision to life.
The only Indian film at the Academy Museum’s “Where the Forest Meets the Sea” series, Los Angeles—February 12, 2026. @academymuseum #Bramayugam starring @mammootty.”
Social media celebrates the moment
As soon as the post went up people started reacting with joy and pride. The comment section filled up fast. One person wrote, “This is huge.” Another one wrote, “We got Robert Eggers, Ari Aster, Jordan Peele rolled into one guy – Rahul Sadasivan.” Someone else proudly said, “First Indian movie to screen.” Another comment read, “Really deserving Kudos to the whole team.”
Standing among world folk horror classics
The Where the Forest Meets the Sea series will run from January 10 to February 12. This program brings together films inspired by folk tales from different parts of the world. Other films like ‘Midsommar’ (2019), ‘Häxan’ (1922), ‘La Llorona’ (2019), ‘The Witch’ (2015), ‘Viy’ (1967), ‘You Won’t Be Alone’ (2022), ‘Under the Shadow’ (2016), ‘The Wicker Man’ (1973), ‘His House’ (2020), and ‘Onibaba’ (1965) will be also screened.
Rahul Sadasivan’s recent film was the horror drama ‘Dies Irae’ which had Pranav Mohanlal in the lead. Although the film didn’t come to the level of his previous works ‘Dies Irae’ did a decent box office business. ETimes review for the movie read, “Rahul also weaves magic around the modern home that Rohan lives in.
How do you create fear in daylight, in everyday moments, inside a large, open, modern room that is definitely not your cliché horror setting? This is, in fact, a study in how to use light and sound to create the right chills. There are a few jump scares, but the real fear and anxiety-inducing moments are the seemingly normal ones that flip like a switch.”
