THIMPHU: Isro launches Bhutan sat, EAM Jaishankar hails ‘milestone’
THIMPHU: The India-Bhutan satellite, jointly developed by the two countries, was launched into space Saturday by Isro’s Polar Satellite Launch Vehicle, the government said in a statement. The satellite will provide high resolution images to Bhutan for its natural resources management.
Foreign minister S Jaishankar called for harnessing of space technology for improving the lives of people in both nations while describing the launch as a historic milestone in bilateral cooperation. Through a televised address to Isro scientists at the Mission Control Centre, he said the partnership between India and Bhutan has been taken to a new era in 21st century, through achievements in space and technology. “PM Narendra Modi during his visit to Bhutan in August 2019 had jointly inaugurated the ground earth station of the South Asia Satellite in Thimpu, which was constructed with the support of Isro,” he said.
